Imagine an outdoor museum and Luxor more than measures up to the vision. Built
on the 4,000-year old site of ancient Thebes, once ruled by great pharaohs such
as Ramses II, this fascinating city stands on the east bank of the Nile and
quite literally, resonates with history. As well as incredible backdrops against
its busy centre, the flat plains around it offer up awesome treasure after
treasure. |

Aswan is the southern-most city in Egypt, located 800 km south of Cairo at the
first of six cataracts on the Nile. The city is an old commercial town and in
antiquity it was known under the name of Syene. Since construction of the Aswan
Dam, the city has become an important industrial centre with steel, aluminum and
chemical industries based on the electrical power drawn from the turbines of the
Dam.

Abu Simbel Temples are two massive rock temples in Nubia, about 290 km southwest
of Aswan . The first, and largest of the temples, is dedicated to the sun god
Ra-Harakhte, while the second, which is smaller, and a few meters to the north,
was dedicated by Ramses II to his beautiful wife, Nefertari, to be worshipped
together with other deities. |
