In their latest assembly, Egyptian Minister of
Tourism Zohair Garranah met with a delegation from
the Ministry of Tourism in Greece, where he
announced the cooperation of both parties in
developing the tourism and hospitality industries of
both countries.
Mr. Garranah highlighted the important role the
human resources play in the industry and therefore,
announced plans to development of a highly advanced
hospitality and tourism institute, according to
international standards, in order to maintain the
most qualified candidates in the hospitality
business.
The institute is being built in 6th of October City,
in Cairo and financed by the Greek Ministry of
Tourism. The Ministry is to also supply the
institute with about 16,000 professional instructors
and trainers. According to Mr. Garranah

the agreement is to develop the tourism sector of the
country, to be able to compete worldwide
and increase the tourism flow in Egypt
to reach more than 14 million tourists
in 2011. Furthermore, both parties are
to cooperate in the Yacht Tourism
development. |

Tourism Minister Zohair Garranah
points out at the
tremendous growth of tourism throughout the past 20
years that the number of tourists grew from 1.4
million tourist in 1986 to 8.6 million tourist in
2006; and the amount of tourist nights increased
from 9.3 million night to reach 85 tourist night
over the same period. As a result, Egypt’s profit
from tourism increased from $ 304 million to $ 8.6
billion in 2006. Mr. Garranah also confirms that for
the fourth year in a row, Egypt has been witnessing
from January to October of each year, a four-
percent- growth in the number of tourists. And this
is because of the restoration of several historical
sites found in Old Cairo, the Citadel in Alexandria,
in addition to many others in Almenia and Aswan. The
minister also referred to the development projects
that took place across Cairo, Alexandria, and the
Red Sea, as the other reason behind the tremendous
growth in tourism. |
