Marking its 15th
anniversary of International Marathons, Egypt is
to host the Annual International Marathon to
take place in Upper Egypt on February 15th, 2008
at Luxor City.
Attracting nearly
2000 long-distance runners from more than 36
countries, the marathon is the only official
event of its kind in the country. The track runs
along the famous ancient monuments of the West
Bank and through the sugar cane fields of the
local farmers in Luxor city.
In addition to the
main marathon, the event features the 22km Luxor
run, 12km Ramses run and walk and races for
inline skaters and wheelchair users. To make
this event fun for the whole family, children
can also test their competitiveness with the 5km
kids' run.
Under the
sponsorship of the Ministry of Tourism,
participants are taken for a three- day
excursion in the ancient city of Luxor, where
they are to visit Egypt’s historical sites of
the city.
On February 12th,
2008, attendees will fly to Luxor to visit the
Hatshepsut Temple. The next day, they will be
visiting the Valley of the Kings, followed by an
inspection trip to the marathon course. On the
14th, they will visit the Luxor and Karnak
Temples, followed by the official inauguration
of the 15th International Egyptian Marathon.
