Egypt’s International Marathon Gears-up at Ancient Egypt

Marking its 15th anniversary of International Marathons, Egypt is to host the Annual International Marathon to take place in Upper Egypt on February 15th, 2008 at Luxor City.

Attracting nearly 2000 long-distance runners from more than 36 countries, the marathon is the only official event of its kind in the country. The track runs along the famous ancient monuments of the West Bank and through the sugar cane fields of the local farmers in Luxor city.

In addition to the main marathon, the event features the 22km Luxor run, 12km Ramses run and walk and races for inline skaters and wheelchair users. To make this event fun for the whole family, children can also test their competitiveness with the 5km kids' run.

Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Tourism, participants are taken for a three- day excursion in the ancient city of Luxor, where they are to visit Egypt’s historical sites of the city.

On February 12th, 2008, attendees will fly to Luxor to visit the Hatshepsut Temple. The next day, they will be visiting the Valley of the Kings, followed by an inspection trip to the marathon course. On the 14th, they will visit the Luxor and Karnak Temples, followed by the official inauguration of the 15th International Egyptian Marathon.
