The city of Luxor is actually built on the 4000 year old ruins of the ancient city of Thebes, and is located 675 km south of Cairo. It's unique because it holds a wealth of ancient sites and it attracts a lot of tourists. Today's visitors come by Nile Cruise, plane, or even on an overnight train.
There are many attractions, and most people have heard of them well before they ever came to Egypt: the majestic temples of Luxor and Karnak, and the Valley of the Kings, where countless Pharoahs were buried, including Tutankhamen of the gold mask.
Today, Luxor boasts many amenities and facilities for visitors from diverse countries and cultures. The city has a variety of hotels, bars and restaurants to accommodate a wide range of tastes. There is even a championship golf course as a change from sightseeing.
Greatly adding to the charm of Luxor is the fact that many official and government buildings are of a "pharaonic" style of architecture. |
